Hardening the frailty of Software
Can hardware be a cure for the frailty of Software?
A multitude of ECU (electronic control unit) assemblies are featured on modern vehicles be it for the engine control, the climate and navigation systems, lighting or the multiple active devices such as sun roofs, spoiler, mirrors etc. As the ECUs become more sophisticated in the context of driver assistance and autonomous driving they play an increasingly critical role towards safe operation of the vehicle.
This has elevated the structural performance requirements of the ECU mounting in recent years. Limiting vibration levels to ensure the correct ECU operation is not only required from the durability aspects of the bracket, but there are hard limits for the ECU to function properly even before excessive structural excitations or failure occur.
